Animals of the Week: This Lion, Tiger, and Bear Formed An Epic Friendship

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! Thirteen years ago, three cubs were rescued from the apartment of an Atlanta drug dealer, who reportedly kept them as a status symbol. Today, this too-cute-for-words trio is fondly referred to as BLT by staff members at the Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Locust Grove, Georgia.

Separately, they’re known as Baloo the brown bear, Leo the lion, and Shere Khan the tiger and are native to three entirely different continents.

Under normal circumstances, these unlikely besties (and we really mean unlikely) should have been at each other’s throats —literally. Instead, they choose to share a cage on a sprawling three-acre habitat.

“They actually seek out each other’s affections,” the founder of Noah’s Ark, Jama Hedgecoth, said. “They nuzzle each other. They play together.”

That’ll be one point for animals, zero for humans. We could really learn a few things about acceptance and friendship from these big ‘n furry guys.

  • The world famous and one of a kind Malt Whisky Trail in Scotland passes through seven Speyside working distilleries, as well as a historic distillery and Britain's only cooperage.
