The first flight of nonstop service between Atlanta and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic departed Wednesday.
Passengers on the inaugural flight that left from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta
International Airport and landed in Punta Cana International Airport were treated to a festive showing from a meringue band and dancers.
Punta Cana becomes the sixth Caribbean travel destination route for AirTran. Aruba, Cancun, Montego Bay, Nassau and San Juan are the five Caribean destinations in AirTran's network all ready.
