Chile’s LAN Airlines expects approval on a planned merger with Brazil’s TAM Airlines in the coming year, according to a top executive.
In a recent radio interview, LAN Chief Operating Officer Ignacio Cueto said that the airlines are hopeful they will begin working together by mid-2011.
That statement comes as local media outlets report fears among regulators that the merger would give LAN nearly complete control over the Santiago-Sao Paulo route.
The merger, which was originally announced in August, needs approval from regulators in both countries.
