When The Beatles proclaimed that “love is all you need”, they clearly hadn’t taken the Pont des Arts bridge into consideration. This past Sunday, a 6.5-foot expanse of the padlock-adorned passage was literally loved to death.
Though no one was actually harmed when the fencing fell, Paris officials are concerned that boats and barges in the heavily-trafficked Seine river below could become caught in the crosshairs of thousands of crumbling relationships.
While everything from ribbons to digital messages were suggested as alternatives, it remains to be seen whether Paris' lovebirds would ever give up their locks.
