“The Rock,” a highly anticipated and often-delayed museum exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, may finally be gaining traction…literally.
The centerpiece of the display, an enormous 340-ton boulder was supposed to begin its 60-mile journey to the museum back in August. However, due to a myriad of setbacks, which varied from permit problems to issues establishing the safest route, the rock hasn’t budged.
But according to a new report from the New York Times, the rock should finally be on the move by Tuesday night. Its new route will take it on an 11-day journey through four counties and 22 cities.
To ease safety fears, the rock will only be on the move at night. If all goes as planned, the megalith will be united with a 456-foot concrete slot which has been waiting for it at the museum in a little under two weeks. The piece is titled “Levitated Mass,” and is the work of California sculptor Michael Heizer.
