Last Saturday, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport partnered with the Seattle Music Commission to “bring back the golden age of music with a new initiative to feature hometown sounds.”
Travelers passing through the airport’s terminals will get the “full effect” of the music scene in Seattle – enjoying a mix of overheard announcements, background tunes and music videos. Monitors will pay videos by popular artists, and announcements will even be recorded by Sir Mix-a-Lot, an emcee and producer based in the city.
Seattle-based artists like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Jimi Hendrix, along with more modern independent rock bands, will be featured.
The airport will also offer those with Wi-Fi capable devices the use of an online music channel, which will be accessible through the airport’s wireless internet network.
Mike McGinn, the mayor of Seattle, said that the city is “known around the world for its music culture, so it’s great to see this identity embraced and showcased to all the travelers going through the airport.”
