Travel Shot: St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City

Marchers in the St. Patrick's Day Parade (Image: Wikimedia)Irish pride runs high in New York City and the St. Patrick's Day Parade has become one the longest-running and most recognized celebrations in the Big Apple.

The first St. Patrick's Day celebration in New York City can be traced all the way back to 1762.

Since then, the parade has grown each year into one of the largest celebrations of Irish heritage in America.

Hundreds of thousands of revelers (some Irish, some not) come out to participate in the festivities.

This year, the Grand Marshall of the New York City parade was famed author Mary Higgins Clark.
