Dancing with the Stars: Former Cast Members Viva Las Vegas

The television phenomenon “Dancing with the Stars” is getting deeper into the season. What happens when the glittery disco ball is hoisted above this season’s winning duo?

Does a nasty case of “Dancing” withdrawal begin to sweep the die-hard fans? It doesn’t have to.

Fortunately, Las Vegas is a mecca of “DWTS” and with the cheap flights available to the city, the opportunity to continue on with the dancing craze is alive and well.

In all, Las Vegas can proudly claim 11 celebs who have appeared on the show as their stars, too.

The list includes Season One champ John O’Hurley, who starred in “Spamalot” at Wynn and Season Two winner Drew Lachey, who hosted “The Price is Right Live” at Ballys as well as Wayne Newton and Mel B (one of the original stars of “Peepshow” at Planet Hollywood).

Not all of the former cast members may be found dancing in town, but they can still be found on stage and in front of an audience.

Jerry Springer – This former talk show host is hosting “America’s Got Talent Live” at The Collosseum at Caesars Palace October 28 – 30, and then returning to town to host “The Price is Right Live” at Bally’s Nov. 9 through Dec. 11. The live game show channels the popular television program and gives audience members the chance to play games and win prizes.

Donny and Marie Osmond – Brother and sister act, Donny and Marie Osmond, have both danced across the stage on “DWTS.” Marie appeared on Season Five; Donny appeared four seasons later, when he took home top honors. The duo, who are headliners at Flamingo Las Vegas, bring their family act to the stage in a show that integrates song and dance. The intimate theater gives the audience a chance to check out their dance moves, up-close and personal.

Penn Jilette – Penn Jilette has been in Las Vegas far longer than the “DWTS” has been in existence. After nearly a decade in town, the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino show, “Penn & Teller” still fills the house, treating visitors to a blend of comedy and magic. While audience members won’t see Penn doing any fancy footwork, they will see him and his co-star do a host of other intricate steps, like catching bullets with their teeth.

Holly Madison – The E! reality star who rose to fame with “The Girls Next Door” is the star of Planet Hollywood’s “Peepshow.” There’s singing, sexy dancing and, of course, Madison as the bombshell strutting her stuff in this adult take on the fairytales of childhood.

  • I wake to banging doors and loud conversation. I step out into the hallway and it appears Hansel and Gretel were here as a path of Cheerios leads to the loud room in question. I walk into the elevator and what do we have here? Sopping wet teens in their swim trucks and no shoes create a slippery mess for the next elevator occupant. I wander down to the hotel lobby and it appears a group has decided to take over the space for an in-hotel party. I squeeze past one of the partygoers to grab a cup of coffee included in my room rate and receive several glances like I just crashed the party uninvited. I’m dealing with all of those annoying people you meet in a hotel....read more

  • After spending several months in Italy, I was skeptical Portugal would amaze me at the dinner table. To make matters worse for the country, I had just come back from Spain, no slouch in the food department either. Amidst Italy, Spain and France, Portugal’s drinks and dishes don’t always make it on to the foodie’s radar. And after a few bites and drinks at an old tavern in Viseu, I was hooked. I was missing Portugal as a food and drink destination. If you are headed to Portugal or need a push to consider going, a few meals and glasses of wine prove an empire of discovery and exploration did this country’s palette right....read more
