Romance in the Rockies: Romantic Ways to Spend Valentine's Day in Denver

The Denver skyline (CC Flickr photo credit: Larry Johnson)You may be traveling to Denver for the snow and a good ski session, but with Valentine's Day just around the corner, it is a good idea to consider some of the more romantic options the Mile High City has on offer.

From horse-drawn carriage rides to cozy cabin overnights, travelers arriving on flights to Denver have all the opportunities to make Valentine’s in Denver a special getaway for themselves and that special someone.

Secluded Cabin Retreats: What could be more magical than a private cabin getaway in the middle of the snow?  With a couple bottles of red wine, chocolates and a fire, it sounds like a perfect Valentine's Day for capturing the whole sense of being disconnected.

Ski cabins are a dime a dozen in the Denver region. An alternative option is to splurge on a luxurious Denver hotel room for the night.

Book a Spa for Two: A couples massage or relaxation treatment for two screams Valentine's Day treat.  The Body Massage Wellness Spa in downtown Denver has couples massages for just the occasion.

Ride a Horse-Drawn Carriage: You can take advantage of a romantic staple with your sweetie by enjoying a carriage ride through the historic sections of Denver this Valentine's Day.  Irish Horse Carriages offers special downtown carriage rides during Valentine’s week starting from $75.

Reserve a Candlelit Dinner for Two: There is no shortage of romantic restaurants to choose from in Denver. Some options include:

  • Bistro Vendome - Located in Larimer Square, this French Bistro offers a delight of French cuisine that can be topped off with a orange-chocolate fondue.

  • Cucina Colore - This authentic Italian restaurant with a bistro feel is seated in Cheery Creek North.  For a decadent romantic dinner, be sure to indulge in the Peach Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce.

  • Mizuna - Mizuna only holds 16 tables, so you will never feel like you're needing to talk over the noise of the restaurant you're at on Valentine's Day. It's a French restaurant meaning you can stuff yourself with rich foods before tucking in to the warm chocolate cake.

Take in the Rocky Mountain View
: Mountains fill Colorado and they also fill the skyline surrounding Denver.  Why not find a restaurant or a bar with a view of nature's beauty for this romantic evening?  The Peaks Lounge, located at the Hyatt-Regency, is a rooftop bar with excellent cocktails and appetizers.  Check in for a special wine and chocolate pairing package just for Valentine's Day.

In Denver, there's literally no excuse to not be romantic on this coming Valentine's Day.  What else do you have planned for your Denver getaway?

  • I wake to banging doors and loud conversation. I step out into the hallway and it appears Hansel and Gretel were here as a path of Cheerios leads to the loud room in question. I walk into the elevator and what do we have here? Sopping wet teens in their swim trucks and no shoes create a slippery mess for the next elevator occupant. I wander down to the hotel lobby and it appears a group has decided to take over the space for an in-hotel party. I squeeze past one of the partygoers to grab a cup of coffee included in my room rate and receive several glances like I just crashed the party uninvited. I’m dealing with all of those annoying people you meet in a hotel....read more

  • After spending several months in Italy, I was skeptical Portugal would amaze me at the dinner table. To make matters worse for the country, I had just come back from Spain, no slouch in the food department either. Amidst Italy, Spain and France, Portugal’s drinks and dishes don’t always make it on to the foodie’s radar. And after a few bites and drinks at an old tavern in Viseu, I was hooked. I was missing Portugal as a food and drink destination. If you are headed to Portugal or need a push to consider going, a few meals and glasses of wine prove an empire of discovery and exploration did this country’s palette right....read more
